From Tony Keene – Youth Minister
Youth group at HSBC is a unique combination of Biblical instruction and real-world application. At HSBC, we strive to meet our Youth where they are…whether new to church or regular attenders. Youth group meets downstairs in the Refuge on Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 7:30. We feature co-ed Bible studies for Youth in grades 6 thru 12 where we apply Biblical principles to the challenges our Youth face every day. We encourage our Youth to dig deep into the Scriptures to find the answers to today’s pressing concerns; peer pressure, relationships, false doctrines, college/career choices, and many other issues that impact spiritual growth.
Our Youth meetings include Bible study sessions from many of today’s top Youth ministry writers including Michael Kelley, Jefferson Bethke, Jason Gaston, JD Greear, and many others. These contemporary authors challenge us to seek a deeper understanding of the Good News of Christ, tell our friends and families about what God has done for us, and move past “religion” into relationship. These sessions are comprised of DVD content, Scripture reading, and Question and Answer time to enhance practical application.
While our primary focus is on sound Biblical teaching, we know that Fellowship is key to spiritual growth as well. We make time to have fun activities and fellowship in ways that build up our Youth and encourage them to come out of their comfort zones. Each Youth brings their own unique perspective to our group and we encourage them to develop their God-given talents and abilities. We have offered musical opportunities with Youth Praise Band, and we play a variety of sports including volleyball, dodgeball, and kickball. We enjoy contemporary Christian music as part of our fellowship time before Bible studies as well as “epic” games of foosball and air hockey.
HSBC’s mission is to Honor God’s Truth, Share the Gospel, Build Believers, and Care for Others. We seek to live out this mission with our Youth and help them to know God, follow Jesus, and rely on the Holy Spirit to guide their lives. Join us as we seek Him together.
