Many college students attend our Sunday morning worship services each
week, and several of the students have become actively involved in the
various ministries of our church. We offer a
Sunday School class at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings for the college
students, taught by Brent & Ginger Nolker.
We host monthly College Student Dinners. Dinners are
on Sunday evenings at 5:00 p.m. Talk to the Nolkers for more
information.
HSBC actively supports the
Baptist Student Union
(BSU) at Truman State University in a variety of ways. We, along
with other area churches, provide snacks for Damascus Road (Thursday night
worship service) on a regular basis. We also support the BSU
financially.
Philos: A Partnership between College Students and Families
What is Philos?
Philos is a Greek noun used in the New Testament that means "friend"
- as a verb, it means "brotherly love." Philos as a ministry is an
opportunity for families and college students to connect with a new
friend to whom they can show brotherly or sisterly love! Families
agree to invite the college student for at least two meals during the
semester, and also to serve as another support for students in the
community. Families might help students find a good mechanic, tell
them about local events, or help them know what to do in the event of
sickness or injury.
Who can be a part of Philos?
Anyone! If you are a college student of any age, we want you
to be a part of this ministry! If you are single, married, have
children, don't have children, are young, are old, we want you to be a
part of this ministry!!!
How can I get involved in Philos?
It's easy! You fill out a form with your name and basic
information, and then we match the college students and families!
We'll introduce you, and give you the contact information for the other
person. Then you hang out together and get to know each other -
you connect!
